Our Acceptance!

Hello and welcome to the official blog of the LeoCraft Design Team from Princess Margaret Secondary School in Surrey, British Columbia! We're buzzing with excitement and can't wait to spill the beans. Drumroll, please... πŸ₯ We've been picked as the ONLY team from Canada to compete in NASA's 2024 Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC)! This is not just a milestone for our school or community, but a memorable moment for Canada as a whole.

Imagine a group of high schoolers more ecstatic about rockets and Mars than the latest Netflix series. We are a diverse group of passionate high school students who share a common love for space, engineering, and science. Our team comprises aspiring students, all of whom have come together with the singular goal of excelling in the HERC program. Together, we aim to design, build, and test an innovative human powered rover capable of navigating extraterrestrial terrains, thereby simulating the challenges that could be encountered in future human exploration of celestial bodies.

Why?

Picture this: a global stage where young minds like us get to flex their brain muscles and build tech that could literally be used in space! That's HERC for you. Hosted by NASA, it's way more than just another school project; it's our ticket to hands-on learning, creativity, teamwork, and solving real-world challenges. And guess what? You can learn more about HERC right here.

Our Aspirations

As the only Canadian team in this competition, we are not just representing Princess Margaret Secondary School, but also the innovative spirit and scientific prowess of Canada. Our goal is to demonstrate Canada's strength in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and space exploration disciplines. Our aspirations stretch beyond winning; we hope to inspire other young Canadian minds to pursue STEM fields. We are dedicated to leaving our imprint since this challenge is our first step toward a better, more technologically sophisticated future for Canada.

The Path Less Traveled

Don't get us wrong; the journey to NASA isn't a cakewalk. We've got some serious fundraising to do, as we need to cover the costs of designing, building, and testing our rover, and transporting it to the competition. So here's where you come in: if you're feeling the vibe and want to chip in, we'd be over the moonβ€”literally!
